Slammed By The Waves Of LIfe

Lately, I feel like everything has come at me at once.  The amount of major events that have taken place are so numerous I can barely index them in my thoughts.  It feels like I've been slammed by the waves of life.

If you've ever been to the ocean, you will know that the waves keep coming in one by one.  Just when you have your footing from one wave, another sometimes sneaks up on you and crashes into you.  Getting slammed by the waves in an ocean can be fun, but in life it can create much stress.

As these events have happened lately, I try to remain focused on my day.  I try to do what I need to do and prioritize my time.  If I do too much, then I easily become overwhelmed.  When the emotions are high and the stress levels are through the roof, we have to be very cognizant of taking care of ourselves.  Prioritizing our tasks in the day is essential.

Getting good rest or as good rest as you can get will help when you are slammed by the waves of life.  Often in major life events, sleep and rest are difficult to come by in our day.  Our bodies are maxed out and our stress levels prevent us from stopping.  It is in those moments, that even a short nap or a pause to build our strength up is essential.  Even 10 minutes to stop and focus on our breath or just take a pause outside in nature can be very therapeutic.

Remembering to eat well is vital because as we encounter stress, that's often one of the first things to go.  Its easy to skip meals or eat junk food, but when under stress, we have to give our bodies the right kind of fuel, or we will make the events were facing much more difficult.

Sometimes, there is no way to really stop in the moment, but don't go for too long before you do.  The more stress builds up, the more you will fall down.  If you're trying to be there for someone else, the worst thing you can do is neglect your body and your own life.  To be there for them, means you need to be there for yourself.

There will be times that we will face difficult circumstances in life.  Sometimes we just get slammed by the waves of life and we have to live through them.  What we do in those moments to keep ourselves going is completely our choice.  It isn't always easy and sometimes we don't remain conscious,  but in order to survive, we must stay in contact with our own mind, body, spirit and emotions.  Anything less than that will be adding unneeded stress to our lives.
