Corey Says Cuteness Helps

Cuteness By Corey The Orange Cat

Sometimes cuteness in a day is so badly needed.  At least that is what #CoreyTheOrangeCat teaches me.  I'd be lost without our rescue cats.

Too many times in our life, we forget that stopping to observe and notice all that is around us is a good thing for our mind and body.

Triggered By My Cats

No... don't ...

No pets... don't you understand?

Don't do that.

Please don't do that!

The scenario that played over and over so many times as a kid.  Rarely did my pets ever get to come inside and if they did, I often had to sneak them in.

Well, sneaking means I sneaked them through the front door, but then since we had absolutely no privacy growing up, it was hard to keep it a secret.

Unfortunately, our pets were not used to being inside.  I don't know why they weren't allowed to stay inside, but they weren't.  It didn't matter if the nights were subzero temperatures.  It didn't matter what, they just had to stay outside.

The monster would be after them...

Most of them weren't used to letting me know they had to go outside to go to the bathroom.  They made a mess from time to time and of course, when they did - the monster would be after them.

I would see their little heads and faces ground down into the carpet into the mess they made.  The monster would show them once and for all never to do this again.  He'd throw a fit.  He'd make them learn.

I would watch in terror, wanting to rescue them but not able to do a thing.  You didn't dare lift a finger or raise a voice to the monster.  He would lay you flat on the ground and beat you until you could no longer feel a thing.  There was nothing you could do to stop the torture. You had to watch it and hear it and silently cry within.

If the monster got real mad...

If the monster got real mad, he'd pick up the cat, open the door and toss it up in the air.  The cat would go sailing in the sky and somehow land and run away.  I would cringe every time I saw this.  My heart would skip a beat.  I would hold my breath in terror.

And if the monster got real real mad, he'd just kill them.  He'd find a way to drown them in a gunny sack in a river or crush them or whatever method he deemed appropriate.  There was no stopping the judge and executioner.  I was powerless to stop him and I still hate myself to this day for that.  Yet, I was a small child.

I still remember doing the dishes as he shut my little kittens in the cellar door.  They had just been born recently.  I loved the grey one and the charcoal color one.  I had started to name them.  One was smokey.  I would sing to him, "On top of old smokey".  Yet, the monster killed them.

I instinctively knew what happened...

I heard the sounds.  I heard their little meows and screams.  The monster went outside pretending he needed something from the cellar.  Then the screams and meows increased.  The door slammed.  The meows stopped.  I instinctively knew what happened.

I started crying trying to wash the dishes.  As the monster stepped back inside, I was told to grow up and not be a cry baby.  I was told that it was a mistake.  I was given a half fake explanation as to what happened backed up by the monster's lover.

No more did little smokey get to play and listen to me sing.  No more did the Charcoal and the little kittens have a chance at a life.  No more were my new little friends to be around me.

So, when my cats did something wrong, I would be frightened that they would be killed too.  The monster was merciless.  He didn't care.  In fact, the more the kittens showed me they loved me, the more likely it was that he would take them away.

Hoped the monster didn't find out...

I cringed when they did something wrong for I had to hide it and hope the monster didn't find out.  Hardly was I ever successful.  I often failed the cats and pets.

As a kid I watched the movie, The Planet Of the Apes.  It scared the daylights out of me.  However, I found myself hoping and dreaming that the cats and dogs of this world would rise up and rule the humans.  I wished and hoped and prayed that they would claw the eyes of the humans out and cause as much pain and harm to them as they did my own pets.

It never happened.  I still live with those sounds.  I still live with those images.  I cannot erase them from my mind.  They haunt me with every breath I take.

http://mindbodythoughts.blogspot.com/2014/07/dear-pets-im-sorry-i-failed.html

Today, I got triggered.  Today, the trigger got the best of me.  It turned into anger and a rage directed at no one, but at everyone.  Today, I failed once again.

I know one thing, if anyone ever tries to harm my pets, they or I will most likely not be alive.  I will not allow anyone to harm them.  They mean more to me than my own life.  Animals rank higher in life than my own self.  They always have.

I can still hear their screams.

I wish I could have protected them.

I wish I would not have failed so many times.

Pets Teach Us How To Love

I've always had animals around me from farmyard animals to cats, dogs, rabbits, and goldfish.  Right now, I'm taken care of by two wonderful rescue cats.  They look after me and my partner each day.  They make sure we are loved and looked after and we're never alone.

Pets show us how to love one another.  They really do.  If you have a pet, you'll know this firsthand and I'm not telling you anything new.  Unfortunately, we sometimes forget just how much love we are given by our pets.

I wish humans could learn to love one another as our pets love us.  Rather than getting caught up in all the political discussions of the day filled with ego and hate and ill-will towards one another, we could experience love.  The love our pets show for us.

Our pets don't look at us and say, "you're this or that or the wrong thing".  Our pets don't look at us and claim how much we do wrong.  Our pets don't see the differences in us and they often act far better than many humans.

I wish humans could view one another through the eyes of love, just like our pets do.  There would be no issues with color or race or sexuality.  We wouldn't work so hard to divide and separate one another from each other.  We would just look at each other with love and respect, nothing more and nothing less.

I wish humans could stop preaching to one another how much they love all mankind, while showing through their actions and words, the complete opposite.  Let us be like our pets where they show us love through their actions and attentions, meows and barks.

We could learn so much from our pets if we allowed ourselves to learn.  We could look at others with oneness rather than separating our species out of fear and hatred and ego.  We could truly learn what being human is about if we let our pets show us how to love one another.

When A Cat Peers Into Your Heart

When a cat peers into your heart, it is then that you experience a great moment of love in this world.  Those eyes that look deep into your soul and feel all that you are, show you much more than sometimes your day offers.

When a cat peers into your heart, it is then that you see the full breadth of all that is possible.  For the purrs of a cat's heart resonate deep within as they lift you up to moments that can be.  It is in that moment, where the sounds vibrate your heart with joy.

When a cat peers into your heart, it is then that your own humanity becomes alive as it connects to something outside of your own realm.  It is then that those eyes and that purr and the loving rubs, shower you with blessings in that moment.

When a cat peers into your heart, it is then that your own ills of the day become less and your mind is offered a piece of tranquility.  It is then that the love given to you by a cat transcends you up to higher planes and into a greater peace.

Peaceful As A Cat

There is nothing more peaceful than watching a kitten lie on its back with its eyes closed, oblivious to the cares and concerns of the world.  Breathing slowly and deeply, it relaxes into the floor as if there nothing else to be concerned with in that moment or in any moment to come.  It is an example of lasting peacefulness, grace and ease for their life.  In the same way, we can become like the cat if we so choose. - Don Shetterly

Simple Moments In Life According To A Cat

Simple Moments In Life
According To A Cat

I love it when an animal teaches us about life by just being themselves.  I ran across this video the other day and just found it to be cute.  It was a great way to help remind us that simple things in life mean so much.  If you're a cat lover, you know just how true this video is.

There is so much that animals can teach us and all we have to do is spend a moment with them.  Some days we complicate our lives by making it more than it needs to be.  If we just step back for a moment and find the little things in life, we will most likely be amazed at how much joy we can find in our own day.

I hope you enjoy this video.  There is an orange cat on here that is just like one we have.  He is so full of love and anywhere we are at, he is the happiest when he is right there with us.  He doesn't go for the fancy things.  All he wants is the simple things in life like being loved, fed and close to his humans.

The Cat Knows

I'm always amazed at our cats for they seem to know what we are going through when sometimes, we don't even fully understand it. Our two cats are very perceptive and I am sure many could say the same thing about their cats. These cats just seem to feel, sense and know what we know but without all the distractions of life.

The other day, I was struggling and not able to focus. Our orange cat, Corey, knew this and was by my side to offer his assistance. His assistance though in amongst the purrs and sharing his love with me was the desire to play.

Even though I didn't really want to be bothered at that moment, I tried to oblige him by playing for a few moments and then letting him be on his own. That was not good enough for Corey and so he would find ways to get my attention and bring me back to a place where we could play. He did this repeatedly until I gave in to his play time.

Yet, I learned that the playtime wasn't really for him. It was his way of helping me get my mind off of some things and just stop for the moment. Corey knew deep down that if I did this, he would help me immensely. Of course, Corey loves to play and he loves to look after his humans but this particular day, he was there to help me out.

Cats are so amazing and I would really be lost without them. I've had a cat most of my life. They are just there when you need them most and it is wonderful to come home and see them meet you at the door or to just have something loving to greet you when you take a break.

We often say that they are "OUR" two cats but I think if you asked our cats about this, they would say, we are their humans that they watch out for and love!

Mother Cat Hugs Baby Kitten

Some days on this blog, we just need to stop and enjoy special little moments. You may or may not have seen this YouTube video but it is so cute and full of love, that I could not help but post it. Often, I find that cats can teach us so much about life. At least our two cats attempt to teach us what really matters.

This video is just precious and you can see the love and affection between the Mother Cat and the Kitten. Enjoy it if just for a moment. If you're having a rough day, just take a moment and relax as you sink into this video.

I Will Love You Forever Snuggles

Snuggles, my cat who was with me almost 18 years, died this morning. Here's something I wrote about her. She meant so much.
