Being Okay With This Moment

It isn't easy for me at times.  Sometimes I feel overwhelmed even with all the extensive work I have done on myself.  Other times, it feels like smooth sailing.  The one thing I have realized in this healing journey is that the deeper you allow yourself to go, you just have no idea where that will take you.

Being okay with this moment is often tough for us humans.  It just is!  We're usually standing in the darkness of a cave or the fog of the unknown world around us.  But being okay - now that's like super challenge for the superhero.

I have found though, that being in the midst of what you don't know is often the best way to find what you need.  That may sound like doublespeak, but I've found it to be true.  Allowing myself just go in and be okay with where I am at is sometimes the launching point for so much more in my life.

There are times when we face so much in life and sometimes I don't believe there are always answers immediately looking at us in the eye.  Sometimes, I don't think we are ready for those answers.  Yes, it seems tough in the moments and we often struggle to make sense of it, but sometimes things are just the way they are because they are.

As one goes deeper and deeper into healing trauma, you will see new layers unlike you have ever seen before.  Some of them get pretty deep and challenging, but as you go, you have more and more skills to harness what is before you.  You are operating at a higher level then you have been, and so you will move through these things, if you just allow yourself to be okay with this moment.

One of the things that has never fully 100% come back from my days of Conversion Disorder and paralysis is my memory.  I struggle with it.  Yes, I realize many people do, but my struggle is a little different than most.  I remember what therapist asking me, "can you be okay with this?"  At first I was like, well of course I can, I have to be strong.  However, the more I thought about that question, the more I realized it wasn't as easy as it sounded.  It is not easy to just be okay with it.

Another time where I had a rash that covered my entire body from trauma memories of years gone past.  It was going to that place of being okay in this moment that I could find what I needed to heal from this horrible condition I was facing.  I'm not saying it was easy.  I'm saying I needed to be okay with this moment so I could actually move forward and heal.

We all want a quick fix but often what seems like a quick fix is nothing more than a big detour from where we need to go.  Sometimes stopping the car in road of life, we can take a moment and be okay knowing that we're studying our road map to find where the route ahead leads us.

Being okay with this moment is often what we need to do and I do agree its challenging.  However, its the stuff that super healers are made of and it is empowering.  I'm sure I'm not the only that has seen this in action and if you have seen it, please leave your story in the comments below.

Our Road Of Life Has Many Twists

Road Of Life
Grandfather Mountain, NC
It is amazing how our road through life takes many twists and turns. I usually try to observe and watch the path that I take. I've seen some detours in my life, some dead ends and some of those up the mountain roads. There have been the times that I felt like I was on a slippery when wet road or sliding down a ice and snow covered hill. All in all, there are times when the road is a scenic drive and then there are times when it is a road from you-know-where.

Sometimes it is so easy to concentrate on the current position we are at while on our own road of life. It is easy to look out the window and exclaim this is what life is all about in this moment. We may be screaming or smiling or hanging on for dear life and it is way too easy for us to think that this is all that life is.

However, we forget that life is not just this one part of our journey, but all of these parts put together. It is the sum total of our experiences, both good and bad, that bring us to this one moment today. If we had not traveled the other roads of our journey, we may not have come to experience this particular section.

We Have ThIs One Moment

We Have This One Moment

Some days it gets difficult keeping a perspective in life. Many things travel at different speeds that are out of our control. Other events take place and circumstances happen that give us little in the way of reaction. Some days, just taking a step in any given day can be a monumental accomplishment.

At times through my life, some of the simplest moments were the hardest. In those times, it felt like I was standing before the highest mountain range, trying to find a way to cross. I would study it and think about it and hope for it, but no magical path was there. It was all up to me to find the way.  I had to take action.

Some days in life, it is difficult to understand what we are up against. Some times, it is difficult to even see what lies ahead, let alone what it looks like in the moment we are currently living. Often the picture is fuzzy, unclear and uncertain. What makes it more clear and certain is anyone's guess in that moment and something each of us must find in our own way.

Stopping And Observing The World We Live In

Birds Outside My Window
Stopping And Observing

Those little things in life that we often miss can bring such joy, peace, and a moment of relaxation to our day. Yet, we so often walk right past them, not even noticing what is playing out before our eyes. It is like going to a symphony, and failing to see the orchestra playing, or visiting some tropical paradise and failing to see the sunsets, coconuts, and palm trees. These moments are all around us for a reason.

Many years ago when I was paralyzed from a conversion disorder, I remember sitting outside all weekend long at the Bridgeway Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. It was the first chance in weeks and even in years that I could just sit out and observe the world around me. I remember sitting there for many hours just listening, watching, and taking in everything that was there. It was as if I was part of all that was going on.
