We Point Fingers

Written By Don Shetterly

Lately, all across the planet, it seems to be human means we stand opposed to one another.  We point the fingers and exclaim that everyone else is the problem.  We hold our heads up high while bashing everyone who doesn't believe our way.

The issue doesn't matter.  From the more serious ones to the little ones, we point the finger and say "you're either with us or you're against us."  There is no middle ground.  There is no listening.  There is no acceptance of anything outside our personal belief systems.

It doesn't seem to matter how enlightened people claim to be or how religious and God-loving they are.  Everyone points the fingers while thinking they have the truth.  They believe they have all the answers.  They believe no one knows what matters the way they do.  When I say they, I mean the "collective we" in our society.

We See Things Our Way...

We judge but demand others not judge us.  We torment and ridicule, but we hate it when the same is done to us.  We fail to listen to others and their points of view while demanding that they adhere to ours.  We speak as if are the only ones with the right to talk while telling all others to shut up and sit down because they have nothing of value to say.

I'm not saying all things that are said, need to be heard.  In fact, I believe many need to practice some self-control and learn which things are good for public discourse and which things are not.  In this day and age of the internet, we all feel that every thought that passes through us must be shared with the world instantaneously.  Thanks, social media, for doing us such a big disservice!

Instead of focusing on what is in our own heart and learning to let go of our own anger and pain and stress of life, we inflict it upon everyone we meet.  We show them our hatred through our words and our actions.  We show them our pain through our inability to just let go and move on.

We Are Part Of The Problem...

We give a voice to the crazy thoughts of the day when we point our fingers at them in judgment.  We give a voice to the crazy talk when we have to share, pass on, retweet, and like everything they say.  We are as much a part of the problem as the ones sharing the trash.  Yet, we hold ourselves up high as we are somehow enlightening the world.

If you add crazy to crazy, you're only going to get a more crazy response.  If you add hatred to hate, you're only going to see more hate.  If you antagonize anger with anger, you're going to see anger on display at every corner.

We need to really stop and think about how our actions are contributing to the overall demise of the world.  We may believe that we are doing something positive, but when we elevate the crazy trash of the day, then we are part of the problem.  We need to stop being part of the problem.

http://mindbodythoughts.blogspot.com/2017/04/i-love-you-but.html

Let's stop judging ourselves and therefore others.  Let's stop pointing the finger at others and therefore ourselves.  Let's stop hating and showering anger upon the world, expecting love in return.

Instead, let us show love to the world by first starting to show love within ourselves.  Let love begin within us.  Let us rid our hearts of hatred, judgment, and anger so that we can fill it with love.  Let us let go of all those we point the finger at, and see the spark of light that is within each human being.

Remember, when you point a finger at someone else, you have three fingers pointing back at you.

Are We Part Of The Problem?

Some days it is hard to be silent.  I see things posted and I so badly want to jump in the fray and force my screams and rants on everyone else.  Sometimes it is all I can do to hold myself back.

However, if I go off and do the screaming, ranting, and mocking that is so prevalent on the internet, then am I any better than the ones that I decry who do this?  I believe if I go out and do that which I abhor, then I'm not any better.  You can't chastise others if you're doing the same as them.

In fact, if I join the screaming and yelling online, I am really being condescending. It would be the same as me looking down at those who do this, while claiming I'm better.  Yet, I see this happen every day by every one it seems.  Online social media is filled with t his behavior.

I try hard to just not join in because to me, there is nothing to be gained.  No one is listening to anyone.  Everyone is calling each other names or saying despicable things about the ones they disagree with online.  So, what would I gain if I did the same thing?

Is that authentic and helpful?

I have a brother who goes to church on Sunday to a very fundamentalist church where they have all the answers and everyone else is lost and going to hell.  Yet, when you see his stuff he shares with others online, it is some of the most hateful things that I see posted.  He holds nothing back as to what he shares about those who don't think like him.  Is that helpful?  Is that authentic?  I think we could all answer those questions easily.

The thing is though, it isn't just my older brother.  It feels like it is everyone, not just of one belief or another.  If you don't go and respond to the bull-crap that's spewed on the internet, my hat is off to you.  Unfortunately, I'm not sure there are many that don't do this.  It is just too wide spread out there.

We give very little value to humanity...

If we are going to see everyone as either agreeing with us or not, then we give very little value to humanity.  If we are going to see everyone as being for or against us or some viewpoint, then we give very little value to humanity.  Surely we can be more than that as humans!

With what I've seen online, I'm so turned off to all of this.  No one is listening to the other.  It is just a free-for-all on all sides, not just one side.  Yes, there are some that act horribly, but if you engage with them, what does that say about you?  If you try to bully a bully on a playground, are you any better than the bully you despise?

http://mindbodythoughts.blogspot.com/2012/07/people-are-too-quick-to-criticize.html

I'm afraid that if we don't pull our daggers back in, we're going to cause irreparable harm to not only our country, but this world and more importantly, humanity.  We can't wait for the others to come around to whatever viewpoint we have.

We need to start acting like humans that are here to work together.  We need to show the love for one another like we claim to have for everyone.  We need to learn what really matters in a day and what is nothing more than noise on the continuum of life.

I Refuse

I'm writing this long before it is published, but it will most likely be relevant at any time it is posted.  In today's age, we have become hatemongers with one another.

We don't care about another point of view or belief.  We just demand that ours is the correct one and all others are wrong.

So today, I state the following.

Join with me if you plan to do the same.

I Refuse!

  • I refuse to partake in the hate-mongering that is thriving online.  If I cannot say something nice about someone, I will be silent.
  • I refuse to partake in the sensationalized drama that is spread through ridiculous social media postings with its only intent is to get you to click on something.
  • I refuse to partake in one-sided arguments where facts are omitted, but belief and opinion are the only arguments.
  • I refuse to propagate pictures and images and social media posts that demean any group or political ideology or persons that are different than me.
  • I refuse to spread false lies and innuendo just because someone on social media claims it is true.  I will check the facts out and if I cannot verify it, I will not spread it forward.
  • I refuse to pass claims along that appear to be valid, but have no basis in fact or ones that have been proven to be untrue.  I will take a minute to think before I forward and like a social media posting.
  • I refuse to add more screaming and yelling to the mix of social media, especially when no one is listening to anyone but themselves.
  • I refuse to live my life on social media because even though I may have connections, I know that it is the true friends you can see and talk to in life that make a big difference.
  • I refuse to get worked up about every social media posting just because the crowd has their pitchforks raised in the air and chanting in unison.

http://mindbodythoughts.blogspot.com/2016/07/i-wish-i-had-enough-love.html

Social media is a good way to help advance things in the world, but lately all I have seen is a place that is degrading to humanity.  The only way we can rise above all of this is if we don't propagate on that which we despise and hate.

If we are not part of the solution, we are part of the problem.

You can expect my social media posts to be respectful, compassionate and hopefully ones that help others heal and advance their lives.  If I fail in this regard, please private message me and show me where I failed.  I will try to correct it immediately.

Do You Check Your Mind At The Door?

This blog post might end up being a little sarcastic, but gosh darn it all to fancy flowers, it needs to be.  Every day, I observe and watch humans interact and every day, I'm disheartened more and more.  It feels like the majority of humans check their minds at the door.  So, yep, I'm off to a sarcastic start!

Watch what people pay attention to in a day.  I'd venture a guess that it is politics 101 remedial level.  Every morsel that is said from any political person or candidate is hung to as if it was the last molecule of oxygen in the entire world.  Its 24 hours a day and if someone in the political realm sneezes, 50% of the population is supportive and 50% of is against the sneeze.

It doesn't matter what the subject is these days.  It doesn't matter if it should be political or not.  People just love to hate and hate to love all the time exclaiming they are somehow superior in their actions and motives over the other person.  There is no listening.  There is no respect.  It is win at all costs even if it means taking the other person down.

Political, social media, everyday life...

If we move on to the subject of online social media, it doesn't get much better.  The garbage that gets posted there in a day could fill all the oceans in the world.  I'm sorry if you think your stuff is better than most, but the percentage of people actually sharing something worthwhile is pretty darn small.  Its almost undetectable. I wish there were more of the people who share good stuff!

Nope, I'm sorry, but sharing pictures repeatedly over and over along with repeated posts over and over that hardly say or do anything just so you get noticed is not really benefiting anyone.  Posting porn pictures constantly thinking this is good, feels more like a 14 year old kid that is seeing a naked person for the first time.  It feels about as immature as it gets.  There is just far too much garbage posted and again.  When people enter online social media, its like they are checking their minds at the door.

Let's not forget the countless email subscription lists of all this useful information that isn't worth two seconds of your time.  Let's not forget the gulping down of advertisements and products and claims that are lacking in substance.  Let's not forget about how much we just try to trick one another into believing something is true when it is not.

Too much superficial stuff these days...

I'm so tired of seeing people check their minds at the door.  I'm tired of seeing the mind-numbed robots so overtaken by media and videos and games and the so-called news.  I'm so tired of seeing politics and the latest news story of the day become more important than humanity itself.

Most likely I am preaching to the choir, but the choir is just as problematic as the minister himself.  Yes, we are human but right now we are failing one another.  We're more interested in the superficial stuff of the day, than in what truly matters.  We care more about winning than the people we trample over on the way to the win.

It isn't the politicians or the media or the leaders of our day that are the problem.  It is each one of us individually.  We make up those people.  We make up the world.  If we stopped doing the things we are doing, things would change so fast, our collective heads would spin off our shoulders.

Part of the problem or solution...

It doesn't start with all those people out there.  It starts within each one of us.  We have to make the choice that we aren't going to be part of the problem, but part of the solution in our own life.  We have to make the decision that we are going to start working to solve our own individual problems rather than proclaim to all others what is wrong with them.

You can continue to check your mind at the door if you want.  It is your choice to do this.  You can also choose to be part of a world where you make a difference, not add to unconsciousness that is so prevalent in every facet of our lives.

Like I have stated in the following blog post, maybe we should learn to respect others.

Question Of The Day

Are you part of the problem or part of the solution?
