Where To Buy Tea Tree Oil

Please refer back to the introductory post about Tea Tree Oil using the following link (LINK) or see the list of topics below for all posts in this series. Previously in this series, we discussed the topic, "How To Make Tea Tree Oil Spray".

Where Can I Buy Tea Tree Oil?

There are many places to purchase Tea Tree oil from your local health food store to places online. I buy my essential oils from Ananda Apothecary. (Please note that I do not receive any income from Ananda Apothecary for these statements).

Ananda Apothecary has high quality oils, great customer service and fast shipping! Plus the prices are very competitive. They really back up their products and if you ever have a concern with them, they are there to help and listen.

While I know Young Living sells good essential oils as well, I have had bad experiences with them. At one time, I would not have purchased my essential oils from anyone but Young Living. I was signed up as a distributor for them until they inadvertently deleted my distributor account from their system. Instead of correcting their error, they demanded that I needed to sign up and buy the distributorship all over again. Of course, this was at my expense. Regardless of trying to point out their error, they would only say that they made a mistake and I had to resign back up as a distributor.

In my search for a new supplier, I found out that Young Living does not distill as many of their oils as one tends to think they do. Like everyone else, most of what they sell is distilled by other manufacturers. As I have found from first hand experience, the quality of the essential oils at Ananda Apothecary are just as good as Young Living, if not better. The prices are considerably better because there isn't the markup like there is with Young Living. There is no MLM marketing concept either like Young Living has.

Regardless of where you buy your oils, do your research and make sure they are high quality oils. Store them in a cool dark place away from sunlight. You don't have to pay and arm and a leg for your oils because in a case like Young Living, you're most likely buying the same oils that other distributors are selling. They may lead you to believe otherwise, but again, do your research!

Home Remedies with Essential Oils

Here's something I got in a newsletter recently from the Young Living Essential Oils distributorship that I am part of. These essential oils do wonders as I use them in not only my own health and massage practice, but I also use them in making my own cleaning solutions. If you have questions or want to know how to purchase these, please contact me and I'll be glad to assist you. Young Living has some of the most pure and best essential oils on the market. You can not beat the quality of them.

For Aches & Pains (instead of pain killers, try...)
  • Peppermint - erases headaches like magic due to its analgesic properties. Topically apply 1-2 drops of Peppermint and Lavender to your forehead, temples and back of neck.
  • Peppermint and PanAway ease stressed muscles and joints. Make a custom massage oil by mixing six drops of either essential oil with one or more tablespoons of V-6 Pure Vegetable Oil complex (or other high quality non scented massage oils. Massage onto the affected area or just apply topically and cover with a moist, hot towel. Feel the relief soak in deep.
  • Valor essential oil blend is a favorite of chiropractors and massage therapists because it balances the body's electrical energies. Chiropractors who apply Valor on the spine before an adjustment tell us it makes adjustments easier and helps them last longer.

For Digestive Upsets (instead of the pink stuff, try...)
  • Peppermint essential oil - is a simple way to deliver an age-old remedy for indigestion, gas, bloating. Make a soothing tea with one drop Peppermint in a cup of warm water or apply 2-3 drops topically to the abdomen.
  • Lemon essential oi is one of the best remedies for heartburn. Place several drops in water and sip slowly. By ingesting Lemon essential oil, the stomach stops excreting digestive acids, thereby alleviating heartburn.
For Cold & Flu Symptoms (instead of antihistamines, try...)
  • Thieves is indispensable for minor respiratory conditions. This very versatile oil can be inhaled, applied topically and taken internally. Apply to soles of feet, then inhale deeply (being careful not to get this hot oil near eyes and mucous membranes). One drop mixed well in a 12 ounce glass of cool water, sipped slowly, supports the immune system.
  • Fevers - Dilute one drop of Peppermint essential oil with V-6 Pure Vegetable Oil Complex and apply to soles of feet. workes great with children.
For Itchy, Ouchy Skin (instead of spray-on chemicals, try...)
  • Lavender has been soothing distressed skin for millenia. When applied topically to sunburn, windburn and other minor burns, it helps to hasten healing of damaged tissues. To moisten minor burns and reduce inflammation, use LavaDerm Spray, which combines Lavender essential oil with soothing aloe vera.
  • Insect bites and itchy skin - because of their outstanding antiseptic properties, essential oils are ideal for treating the itchiness and irritation from most kinds of insect bits. Apply Purification, Lavender or Peppermint topically on location 2-4 times daily: 1-2 drops neat or diluted with 1-2 drops V-6 Pure Vegetable Oil Complex.
For Insect Repellent (instead of Deet, try...)
  • Dilute 6-10 drops of Purification, Peppermint or Lavender in 4 ounces of water and spray on exposed skin to repel insects and their bites.
For Sore Gums & Mouth try...
  • Peppermint's natural menthol helps to relieve pain and reduce inflammation. Apply with a toothbrush or make a mild gargle with 1-2 drops of Peppermint in 3 ounces of water.
  • Gum Infection - Thieves essential oil blend eliminates the bacteria that cause periodontal disease. Place a small drop on a soft toothbrush and apply gently to gumline. Thieves contains hot spice oils such as cinnamon and clove, so sensitive users may wish to dilute first with 2-3 drops of V-6 Oil.
For Insomnia & Restlessness
  • Peace & Calming and Lavender are great favorites for those who have trouble getting to sleep and staying asleep. Apply 2-3 drops topically to the temples, back of your neck, then inhale the fragrance from the palms of your hands for a few minutes. Now, enjoy a peaceful night's sleep.
Important Note: When using essential oils internally, it is vitally important to choose therapeutic grade essential oils. Select only those oils which are Generally Regarded As Safe for internal use by the US Food And Drug Administration.

Peppermint

Peppermint, an essential oil is an everyday oil ideal for invigorating the mind and other body systems.

Did you know?
  • That inhaling peppermint oil helps trigger a sense of fullness after meals, enhances your sense of taste and smell, and improves concentration and mental activity?
  • That peppermint has been studied for its positive effect on the liver and respiratory system?
  • Add a drop of peppermint oil to herbal tea to help aid in digestion.
  • Massage several drops of peppermint oil on the abdomen, place a drop on the tip of the tongue or wrists or inhale to soothe the minor stomach discomfort associated with travel.
  • Rub one drop of peppermint oil on the temples, forehead, over the sinuses (careful to avoid contact with the eyes) and on the back of the neck to help relieve head pressure.
  • Place two drops of peppermint oil on the tongue and rub another drop of oil under the nose to help improve concentration and alertness.
  • Apply peppermint oil to the back of the neck and shoulders throughout the day to keep energy levels up.
(taken from Pg. 6, Essential Lifestyle, Issue Vol 4, No. 1, March 2009 of Young Living)

Peppermint is one of my favorite essential oils. (That is good quality peppermint essential oil and not the cheaper imitation stuff sold in many stores). I always buy the Young Living Essential Oils because of the quality.

Balsam Fir Essential Oil

-- Stimulates the mind
-- Relaxes The Body
-- Soothes aching muscles

Idaho Balsam Fir comes from the botanical family of Pinaceae. The Balsam Fir is often used as a Christmas Tree. It is a Conifer oil distilled in northern Idaho from the needles of the Balsam Tree. Conifer is the name for a tree belonging to the order Coniferales. They are trees with needles or scale like leaves and cones as opposed to broad, flat leaves.(1)

It is made up of alpha-pinene, beta pinene, camphene and limonene.
Balsam Fir is been used primarily for its antiseptic properties and its soothing effect on the muscle and body aches associated with exercise. It is known for its refreshing and uplifting scent.(2)

If you would like to know how to order this or learn more about it, feel free to contact me.

Essential Oils & Congestion

In case you're struggling with a stuffed up nose and congestion during this time of year, one of the things that I use is essential oils. I put it in a aromatherapy diffuser like the one in the picture (there are many different types of this). I light the little tea candle in the bottom of the diffuser and put some very clean water (distilled water is best) than I add the follow drops of essential oils.

4 drops of Lavendar
3 drops of Peppermint
7 drops of Eucalyptus
4 drops of Pine

This works wonders for me when I need to use it. Sometimes my allergies can kick up and this is usually all I need. It keeps me from taking Claritin like I used to do.

One thing to note is don't use cheap essential oils. Spend the money and get good quality ones. There is a difference between them in how they are harvested, processed and packaged. I know you can buy various oils in the health stores and local markets but most of the time you get what you pay for. When you consider how little you use in most things, a small bottle can last for some time. Always store your essential oils in a cool, dry place not in direct sunlight and they will last longer.

I buy my essential oils through www.youngliving.com because they are a very high quality essential oil. If you need essential oils, email me at don@donshetterly.com and I can get you set up with what you need and get you a good price!

IMPORTANT NOTE:  I  no longer buy my oils at Young Living.  Because of their dubious practices in sales, I found a much better supplier, http://www.anandaapothecary.com/   Ananda has wonderful customer service, high quality oils and great prices!

Clean House, Clean Planet

One of the most used books in our house!

I heard about this book from a friend. When I began reading it, I learned a lot as to what was in a lot of the cleaners we bought from the store. Let me tell you - there's some highly toxic stuff in what you buy. And the other thing that really got my attention is that the packaging and water make up a significant portion of the price.

There are many different ideas of natural inexpensive items that you can use in your household cleaning and most of them are either simple to obtain or create. It isn't hard to do at all.

Did you know that you can use the juice from a squeezed lemon as an alternative to bleach in your laundry? I use it for my whites and it does an excellent job! That's cheap and it doesn't harm the world we live in.

And how about a quick, simple and cheap room air freshner for like the bathroom. I use a little open jar with baking soda and the peppermint essential oil. Works wonders for headaches (sniff the peppermint) as well if you have one but it keeps the bathroom smelling nice. And you just keep adding baking soda or essential oil to it when it needs freshened up! Baking soda is a natural substance so it doesn't harm the environment either.

I try to mix up my cleaners so that I don't have too much on hand but I've got enough that I'm not mixing it every time I clean the house.

Another thing that she talks about in the book is using "GOOD", "HIGH QUALITY" essential oils. Not the ones you buy in some local store that are on sale or are made with essential oils. I'm talking about good ones. Since I'm a Young Living Essential Oil distributor now, I buy all mine through them. You can not beat the quality and part of the quality is in how the essential oils are processed and harvested. If you want to know more, just email me on that. I use several but peppermint and lavender are my favorites along with Pine and Eucalyptus. It only takes a few drops because these things are concentrated.

Note:  I now use Ananda Essential Oils.  Better price, excellent quality and they are much nicer to do business with than Young Living.  Young Living screwed me over pretty good and never reconciled it with me.  Go to http://www.anandaapothecary.com/ and check this place out.  They are very nice people.

Here's another little tip I learned from the book and my own experience. I use Dr. Bronner's Sal Suds for my laundry, for general cleaning and for some of the cleaning recipies. It costs around $8 for a 32 oz bottle but it lasts a long time because it is so concentrated. I use less than a 1/4 cup for a load of laundry or when I mop our floors. The best thing about this stuff is that it washes out and doesn't cling to your clothes like regular detergent. It is natural substances so it is good for the environment. But the best part I like about it, is that it seems like our floors don't get as dirty as they once did. It is like the regular pine sol, spic and span cleaners almost attract dirt and this doesn't. I like that! Plus I add essential oil to the mop water and it leaves the house smelling so nice!

I'd tell you what I use to clean glass and windows which will amaze you because it is so cheap and readily available (no, not water and soap either). But I'll just tease you enough so that hopefully you'll read the book. *smile*

The book has so many recipes and ideas and tries to give you the ins and outs about each one. They are not hard to make and everything she has in the book is practical. It came out of what she used in her own house.

So check this book out (link is at the top of the page) and save some money on your cleaning supplies while you are more gentle on mother earth. She'll appreciate it to.

I'm not sure when the last time was we bought a commercial cleaner in the store. We just make our own now.
