Love Wins

The day is so surreal in my mind.  It started out as a second attempt in getting to go down and see a few of the sites in the center of Washington DC.  At first, the skies were cloudy and I was tired and I almost didn't go on my adventure.  It meant getting on a metro rail train in spite of my fears of getting lost in a city I had never been in.  But - I went.

I started out at the White House.  I had always seen the images on TV, but it was different getting to see this up close and in person.  I went and walked to various sites including the Lincoln Memorial, the World War Two Memorial and reflecting pool.   I had been monitoring Facebook to see what was going on with the Supreme Court ruling.

All of the sudden, I saw there was a decision and when I looked at the map, I realized I was a little over 2 miles from there.  My feet said, "oh no you don't", but my heart and mind said, I want to go to the Supreme Court building.  I want to be part of history.  So, I made the trek there.

To think, I was only two miles from the Supreme Court at the time this decision came down.  The odds of that blow my mind away.

Proud To Annnounce I'm Engaged

I never thought that this day would ever arrive. Of course, like many others, I have been following the pending legal decisions on marriage equality.  There is much political and legal wrangling still going on, but hopefully soon in Florida, everyone can get married.

I see it as more of a marriage equality issue rather than a gay or straight issue.  I know that many people may not agree with marriage equality being a right for everyone, but frankly, I'm no longer interested in those viewpoints.  You can call me narrow minded if you want to, but I'm tired of being put down in life for who I am.

For years I fought it and I wouldn't accept it, although I've known since I was a young child that I was different.  I won't go into too many details for now, because that is not what this post is about.  I just want to say, that no matter how you believe, I know I'm gay and it wasn't a choice.  It is who I am.

Marriage Equality

Marriage Equality
It is sad to see statements made in debate playing out across this country.  The people for and against marriage equality are voicing their complaints in the loudest ways possible.  I know which side I come down on and if you read all the way to the end, you will see which way I fall.  Of course, you might be able to tell that before you get to the end, but I'll try to be balanced in what I write.

I realize there are people who live by faith and according to their faith (or religion), homosexuality is wrong.  They will quote referenced statements that they have been taught in justifying their stance to the world.  While I think that they have every right to say what it is they want to say, I believe they are missing the point.  To me, people who call themselves religious but then go around telling people that they love the sinner but hate the sin, are quite frankly judging people.  According to the bible I have read, it says "judge not, lest ye be judged" (Matthew 7:1).  There is only authority that these people claim to believe in and according to the bible, is the only one that can judge anyone.

Often people get so bent out of shape over what is done by others.  It is easier to point a finger at others and make a spectacle out of someone, but at the end of the day, it says far more about the individual than the people they are adamantly against.  It would be much better in this world if we spent more time focusing on how we could be better people ourselves, rather than spending all our waking minutes consumed with what others do.

Love Between Two People - Bridegroom

I know there is a debate going on within the world about marriage equality.  Some people are adamantly against it while others understand it.  To me, love between two people is a sacred concept of humanness regardless if everyone in the world accepts it or not.

Some time ago there was a YouTube video posted on the internet about the story of these two guys who are gay.  It is a real life story that touches your heart (if it is a functioning heart), in a very real way.  This is not fictional.  It is what happened to two people.  Regardless of your own beliefs on this issue, you can't help but be touched by this story.

I'm going to leave the link to the kickstarter page where they are trying to raise money to help produce this movie.  It appears to be a very highly produced and well thought out project.  I hope you will take a look at it and see how it touches your own heart.
