Chronic Pain Is Emotional Pain

One by one bodies began to talk.  They told stories that amazed me and astounded my clients.  One by one it became obvious that their physical pain was a plea to listen and take action on long-held emotional pain.  Only then did chronic physical symptoms start to change.  As these patients confronted their abuse their bodies let go of the related physical pain.

Top Book Reviews Aug 2011

To learn more about what books I review, please go to the following post on Top Book Reviews (May 4, 2011). On the 5th of every month, my goal is to post a review of 1 or more books that have had a strong impact on my life.

Compassionate Touch by Dr. Clyde W. Ford (Trauma & Massage)

While I was in massage school, I began reading his book for a research paper I was writing on "Reclaiming Healthy Touch". I was amazed at some of the insights that Dr. Ford had written about because they were concepts that I had never heard anyone speak about to that point. If you work with people who have been traumatized or you have been through trauma, this book is a must read!

Physical Truth Of The Body

The body doesn’t lie. If a muscle is tight it’s tight. An underlying premise of Compassionate Touch is that we can work with the physical truth of the body to resolve any related emotional truths, regardless of the source or nature of those emotional truths. Simply stated, when working through the body we do not really need to know the source of trauma in order to help the client heal. (Compassionate Touch by Dr. Clyde W. Ford, Page 9).

Sometimes when bodywork and healing is done, there is far too much emphasis on the story of the trauma or issue. We try to uncover facts and details and many try to provide these information points as crucial moments in the healing. While there is benefit to knowing the parts of trauma that is connecting in the moment, the current manifestations are far more important than the story.

Using the story or the piece of trauma information to help push through the fears into healing will unlock the stored energy of that traumatic moment. It will give greater clarity to what is currently taking place as well as provide a foundation for further healing.

The body knows what it needs to do. This is the physical truth of the body. When we work with it, we can overcome so much. We can resolve the emotional trauma a body has experienced.
